What are the beliefs behind Wai Kru Ceremony?

The Wai Kru ceremony is the annual event. It is widely known in many fields and society, for instance, traditional dancers, Muay Thai, and education. The ceremony is believed to be a ritual that students pay respects to teachers to express their thankfulness and gratitude. In the education system, the elements of Wai Kru are composed of flowers decorated pedestal tray, the 3rd grace song, teachers, and students. There are the beliefs behind these elements.

First of all, each flower has its meaning. For example, Dok Kem symbolized sharp wit and intelligence. Dok Ma Khue symbolizes respect as it is bending down as one would do when paying respect to another. Ya Praek represents our ability to learn and grow. Khao Tok stands for the promise to be a good person. Secondly, the 3rd grace song is also known as Phra Khun Tee Saam, Thais believe that the 3rd grace is the teacher. In addition, the 1st and 2nd graces are Buddhism and parents in order. In my opinion, after students are paying their respect to teachers, they will receive blessings and guidance to have a great coming academic year.
