        Wai Kru Ceremony is a Thai cultural ceremony which will be happened at the start of each school year. It is an important event for students in Thailand. It’s always hold on Thursday which is the day for teacher. In this ceremony, all students will pay respect to their teachers to express their gratitude.

         The ceremony begins with students’ recitation of Wai Kru chant, which expresses respect for and gratitude to their teachers, and asks for the teachers’ blessing to their studies. After that the students will give their teachers floral garlands or the special floral trays which consist of meaningful floral such as ixora symbolizing sharp wit, Bermuda grass symbolizing patience, eggplant flowers symbolizing respect, and popped rice symbolizing discipline, together with joss sticks and candles.

        All activities in this lovely and heartfelt ceremony make all teachers and students impressed and linked them together forever. I believe that Wai Kru Ceremony is one of the keys to preserve Thai traditional wisdom for young generation to learn about gratitude.
