Songkran Festival

One of the most famous festivals in Thailand is Songkran festival. It is marked in Buddhist calendar as a new beginning. Songkran Festival is Thai’s new year festival. Songkran is being held in the hottest month of the year. Every year we celebrate Songkran from 13-15 April. The name Songkran comes from Sanskrit meaning “passing” or “approaching” . Songkran means using water to cleanse bad things away and wish for more rain in the near future. Due to the fact that Thailand is an agricultural country, one of the most important keys to farm is to have plenty of water for the plants. Songkran festival used to be just a ritual ceremony, but now the traditional has changed. In the past, during Songkran fastival Thai would do some merit at the temple in the morning and water the elders later late afternoon. Nowadays, this festival is much more meaningful to Thai people at all ages. Every Thai is looking forward for this festival since it is not just a holi ceremony, but also it is a reunion of the family and the joyful festival for the kids. Splash water to cool down the heat and have fun with one another during Songkran festival is the happiest festival for Thai people.
