Loy Krathong Day

One of the most beautiful Thai holidays, Loy Krathong, is held on the territory of the kingdom annually
on the first full moon of November. It is a celebration of light and water,
the day when the Thais let go of everything bad and make wishes, letting their craongs into the water.

Translated from Thai, the very name of the holiday means “floating boat”. It is worth saying that it is quite justified, because on this day boats made of leaves decorated with various incense, candles and flowers are released into the water. A banana leaf is usually used as a base. But at the same time, the kratong boats themselves can be completely different.

As a rule, for tourists who want to join the holiday, sell simple options made of banana leaves with foam attached to the bottom, which helps them to stay afloat.Thais usually choose something more personal. The kratongs created by Thai craftsmen are made in the form of boats and birds, and the more expensive specimens resemble miniature palaces. Thais either buy their kratongs or make them themselves. This is done in advance, and on the eve of the holiday they stand in a prominent place, delighting the guests of the kingdom with their beauty.
