If you have a foreign friend who does not understand any Thai culture. How would you explain your friend to know how important Wai Kru Ceremony?

  1. If I have to tell my foreign friend about Wai Kru Ceremony, I will explain him that This is a Thai ceremony to pay respect to our teachers. The word “Wai” means paying respect and “Kru” means the teacher. This ceremony is widely known as “Wai Kru Day”. It takes place at school. Although the date may vary from school to school, it’s usually held during the beginning of the new academic year. Moreover, it is mostly held on Thursday as Thai people believes that it’s an auspicious day. The importances of this ceremony are firstly to show respect to their teachers. Secondly, to thank them for teaching well in the past. Thirdly, to take a vow to be good students and follow the school rules throughout the year. Lastly, to gain merit and good fortune in the future. In my opinion “Wai Kru Day” is the same as “Teacher Day” in foreign countries.
