In the old days, the Loi Krathong ceremony was a floating lantern. His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, the reign of King Rama 5, has assumed that The Loi Krathong ceremony is a ceremony of the Brahmins. It was held to worship 3 gods, namely Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Later, Buddhism was involved. therefore have a lamp to worship the relics and floating lanterns to worship the Buddha’s footprint

Before Nang Noppamas or Thao Sri Chulalak The first concubine of Phra Ruang will invent a lotus krathong instead of floating lanterns. As appeared in the book Nang Noppamas that
“On the full moon day of the 12th month, I made a sky lantern. Thinking of decorating it to be more strange than all the concubine lanterns, he chose different colors of kakasorn to decorate it in the shape of a flower petal blooming for the moonlight, about the size of a basket. All of the flowers are stacked with different colors to form a pattern…”
