What are the beliefs behind Wai Kru Ceremony?

I believe that the Wai Kru ceremony is usually held to remind the students to respect teachers who plays a big role in education. Wai kru in Thailand is a very religious ceremony. They always start off with a bhuddist prayer. The prayer are recite by students to express respects and gratitudes toward their teachers. They always have flowers which represent a meaning. For example, Ixora ( widely known as ‘ Dok Khem or needle flower) represents the intelligence which can be use to protect themselves like needles. People in the past believe that if we give flowers to the teachers you would be blessed by the teacher which is a very old belief. In the other hand , the international teacher’s day is way more fast and not very religion related. It is true that in Thailand most events are very religious and ceremonial which is a tradition which Thai people do it for a long time. Some people find these ceremony very boring but some also think that doing this ceremony helps us to know more about our teacher !
